Agent Tool Choice
Task decomposition
- User sends a message via chat.
- Message is passed to a single agent along with a rule set for choosing between two tools.
- Agent decides whether the request needs the Weather Tool, the Country Facts Tool, or no tool at all.
- If a location or country is missing or the request is ambiguous, the agent asks one short follow-up question instead of guessing.
- Agent calls the chosen tool (or neither), states which one it picked, and answers.
- Response is returned to the user.
Objective of the workflow
- Demonstrates how a single agent can choose the right tool for a request instead of always calling every available tool or none at all.
- The system prompt gives explicit rules for when each tool applies, so the agent’s decision is traceable rather than a black box.
